Gateway Year 12 and Year 13
The purpose of Gateway is to enable schools to provide senior students with opportunities to access structured workplace learning that has:
- A formalised learning arrangement set in the workplace,
- specified knowledge and skills that a student will attain,
- specified assessment methods (workplace learning).
Gateway opens a new pathway from school to employment, on job training or tertiary study by combining school study with work-based learning. Students attend a work placement over a period of time either during term or during the holidays and complete an individual learning plan. Students are assessed against unit standards on the national qualifications framework and this is integrated into their overall programme of study during the year.
